Shop Drawing
Definition
A detailed fabrication or installation drawing prepared by a contractor or subcontractor, showing exactly how a specific building component will be manufactured and installed. Shop drawings translate the architect's design intent into dimensions, connections, and tolerances that workshop fabricators and site installers can work from directly. In Indonesian construction practice, the term is used in English; shop drawings are reviewed and approved by the architect or engineer before fabrication proceeds.
Example
Before fabricating the aluminium curtain wall system for a Jakarta office tower, the facade subcontractor submits shop drawings to the architect of record showing every mullion connection, glass bite dimension, and anchor detail — the architect's approval stamp confirming the design intent will be correctly executed.
