AMDAL (Analisis Mengenai Dampak Lingkungan)
Definition
Analisis Mengenai Dampak Lingkungan — Indonesia's environmental impact assessment, required for large or sensitive development projects before permits are issued. AMDAL evaluates the potential environmental, social, and health impacts of a proposed project and establishes mitigation measures. It is governed by Law No. 32/2009 on Environmental Protection and Management and is mandatory for projects above certain size thresholds or located in environmentally sensitive areas.
Example
A new resort development on a Bali beach would require an AMDAL process — including baseline environmental surveys, impact prediction, public consultation with affected communities, and a mitigation plan — before the PBG application can be submitted to the local government.
