Definition
Izin Mendirikan Bangunan — the Indonesian building construction permit required before any building work can commence. The IMB is issued by local government and verifies that the proposed building complies with spatial planning regulations, KDB, KLB, and GSB requirements. In 2021, the IMB was formally replaced by the PBG (Persetujuan Bangunan Gedung) system under Government Regulation No. 16/2021, though the term IMB remains in common usage.
Example
Before constructing a house in Jakarta, the owner must obtain an IMB/PBG from the Dinas Cipta Karya, submitting architectural drawings, site plans, and structural calculations for review against the applicable spatial plan (RDTR) for that zone.
