Talang
BUILDING MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTIONbeginner
Definition
Gutter or rain gutter — a channel installed along the eave of a roof to collect and direct rainfall to downspouts and ultimately to a drainage system or rainwater tank. Talang is made from galvalum, zinc, or PVC in half-round or box profiles. Proper talang sizing and slope are critical in Indonesia's high-rainfall climate to prevent overflow and water damage.
Example
An Indonesian house roof requires talang sized to handle the maximum rainfall intensity — typically 100–150 mm diameter half-round galvalum gutter, sloped at minimum 1:100 gradient, discharging into a PVC downspout that directs water to a sumur-resapan or septic tank.
