Pondasi Batu Kali
STRUCTURE & PHYSICSbeginner
Definition
A rubble stone strip foundation — a continuous footing of river or quarry stone set in mortar, used as the primary foundation system for low-rise buildings in Indonesia. Pondasi batu kali is inexpensive, uses locally available materials, and performs adequately on stable soils for one- to two-storey structures. It is the most common foundation type in Indonesian village and low-cost housing construction.
Example
A standard Indonesian kampung house uses pondasi batu kali set in a trench 60–80 cm deep and 50–60 cm wide, topped by a sloof to provide a level and tied base for the masonry walls above.
