Plesteran
BUILDING MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTIONbeginner
Definition
A render coat — a layer of cement-sand mortar applied over pasangan bata or concrete block walls to produce a flat, even base for painting or tiling. Plesteran typically consists of 1 part cement to 3–5 parts sand, applied 10–20 mm thick. It is the first finishing layer in Indonesian construction practice, applied after structural work is complete and before the finer acian skim coat.
Example
In standard Indonesian housing construction, bricklayers apply plesteran to all interior and exterior masonry walls after the structure is complete, working from top to bottom with a screed board to achieve a flat surface before the cement mortar sets.
