Orientasi Bangunan
SUSTAINABILITY & URBAN DESIGNbeginner
Definition
Building orientation — the positioning of a building's major facades and openings relative to solar angles and prevailing winds to optimise thermal comfort and daylighting. In Indonesia's equatorial location (6°N to 11°S), optimal solar orientation places the building's long axis east–west, minimising exposure of end facades to harsh morning and afternoon sun and maximising north and south facades, which receive lower-angle, more manageable solar radiation.
Example
Indonesian green building guidelines (GREENSHIP) recommend orienting residential buildings with main living spaces facing north or south to reduce solar heat gain, while placing service spaces — kitchens, bathrooms, storage — on the east and west walls that receive the most direct sun.
