Marmer
BUILDING MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTIONbeginner
Definition
Marble tile or slab — a metamorphic rock available in white, grey, black, and various coloured veins, quarried in Indonesia (particularly in Sumatra and Sulawesi) and imported. Marmer is softer than granit and more vulnerable to staining and scratching, but is prized for its visual elegance and prestige associations. It is used in high-end flooring, wall cladding, and decorative applications.
Example
An Indonesian hotel lobby uses white marmer tiles with grey and black veining — polished to a lustrous finish and sealed to prevent staining from water and acidic substances, creating a formal, luxury aesthetic.
