Bekisting
BUILDING MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTIONbeginner
Definition
Formwork — the temporary mould into which wet concrete is poured and held until it has gained sufficient strength to be self-supporting. In Indonesian construction practice the term is a direct borrowing from Dutch (bekisting). Bekisting can be made from plywood, timber boards, steel panels, or proprietary plastic systems. Its quality directly determines the surface finish of the resulting concrete.
Example
On an Indonesian apartment project, the floor slab bekisting is typically plywood sheets supported on a forest of steel props — the plywood surface creating the smooth underside soffit finish, while any joint marks or prop impressions in the concrete are later concealed by plesteran and acian.
