Batu Koral
BUILDING MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTIONbeginner
Definition
Coral aggregate or coral rubble — stone chips and fragments from dead coral reefs, used in concrete mixes and as a coarse landscaping material in Indonesian coastal areas. Batu koral is cheaper than granite aggregate and is locally available in island regions, though salt content requires careful rinsing before use in structural concrete.
Example
An Indonesian island resort uses batu koral for landscape pathways and drainage layers — the grey, porous coral rock combining water permeability with a distinctive coastal aesthetic.
