Axonometric
/ˌæk.sə.nəˈmɛt.rɪk/
REPRESENTATION & COMMUNICATIONintermediate
Definition
A drawing system that shows a building in three dimensions with parallel lines remaining parallel (unlike perspective, where they converge). Axonometric drawings are easy to construct from plans and sections and allow accurate measurement of all three dimensions. They became a favourite of Modernist architects for explaining spatial relationships.
Example
El Lissitzky's Proun Room axonometrics of the 1920s demonstrated how the technique could be used as a spatial and conceptual tool — not just a technical convention.
