Site Analysis
REPRESENTATION & COMMUNICATIONbeginner
Definition
A systematic study of a project's location — covering topography, climate, sun path, adjacent buildings, street patterns, views, transport links, and existing uses. Site analysis informs design decisions and ensures the building responds to its physical and cultural context. It is typically represented through annotated maps, diagrams, and photographs.
Example
Studio Gang's analysis of the Chicago lakefront before designing the Aqua Tower (2009) informed decisions about its undulating balconies — calibrated to frame views of the lake and city from each unit.
