DESIGN STYLES & MOVEMENTSadvanced
Definition
A design approach featuring massive frameworks that can accommodate future growth and change. Megastructures were popular in the 1960s–1970s and represent utopian urban thinking.
Example
Kenzo Tange's Tokyo Olympic Stadium (1964) uses a dramatic megastructure framework with suspended roof systems spanning large volumes.
