Kaca Tempered
BUILDING MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTIONintermediate
Definition
Tempered or heat-treated glass — glass that has been heated and rapidly cooled to create internal compressive stresses that make it 4–5 times stronger than ordinary annealed glass and cause it to shatter into small safe pebbles rather than sharp shards when broken. Kaca tempered is required by code in doors, shower enclosures, and large windows to prevent injury from breakage.
Example
An Indonesian bathroom uses kaca-tempered for the shower screen and glass door — the tempered glass stronger and safer than ordinary glass, able to withstand impact and temperature shock from hot and cold water.
