Besi Wiremesh
STRUCTURE & PHYSICSintermediate
Definition
Steel wire mesh — a prefabricated grid of welded steel wires in standard patterns (e.g., 150×150 mm, 200×200 mm) used as distributed reinforcement in concrete slabs, walls, and pavements. Wiremesh simplifies site installation compared to tying individual bars, reduces labour costs, and provides reliable uniform spacing. It is standard in Indonesian slab construction.
Example
A 10 cm concrete floor slab uses two layers of 200×200 mm besi wiremesh — one layer 3 cm from the bottom face, one layer 3 cm from the top — providing distributed reinforcement across the entire slab area with minimal tying labour.
