Tandon Air
BUILDING MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTIONbeginner
Definition
Water tank or cistern — a large elevated or ground-level reservoir that stores potable water for household use. Tandon air is typically made from plastic (fiberglass or polyethylene), concrete, or stainless steel, and is essential in Indonesia where mains water supply is intermittent or unreliable in many areas. A typical household tandon is 1,000–2,000 litres.
Example
An Indonesian house has a 1,500-litre plastic tandon air mounted on a steel frame at the roof level — gravity-fed by mains supply when available, storing water for multiple days of household use when mains is unavailable.
