Parket
BUILDING MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTIONbeginner
Definition
Parquet or wooden flooring — solid wood strips or engineered wood planks laid in patterns (herringbone, basket-weave, or random) to create a finished floor. Parket is rare in Indonesian residential construction due to cost, humidity, and termite concerns, but is used in prestige residential and institutional interiors. Properly sealed parket requires maintenance and climate control.
Example
An Indonesian private residence in a cool highland location (Bandung) uses parket flooring of teak strips in a herringbone pattern — sealed and waxed, but requiring careful moisture management given the frequent rain and humidity.
