Folding Door
BUILDING MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTIONintermediate
Definition
Accordion or bifold door — a system of multiple panels hinged together that fold and stack to one or both sides, allowing complete opening of a threshold without the obstruction of a swinging daun-pintu. Folding doors are used between rooms and between interior and exterior spaces to maximize usable floor area while maintaining visual and acoustic separation.
Example
An Indonesian residential open-plan kitchen uses a folding door system to separate from the living area — when opened, the door panels fold completely against the side walls, allowing the spaces to merge for entertaining.
